All products made by Leather by Lif are vegetable-tanned in Sweden by Tärnsjö Garveri, whose operations date back to the 1800s. During the tanning process, the leather is infused with just the right amount of fat to ensure each hide functions optimally for its intended use. If the end user chooses to add more fat to the leather, there is a risk of weakening it, as the fibers may begin to separate.
For maximum durability, keep your product clean — preferably using regular soap, which contains the small amount of fat needed. No additional conditioning is necessary. If the leather has been exposed to weather and feels stiff or dry, massage it with water and soap, and if needed, add a small amount of fat, ideally one that contains beeswax.
Make it a habit to check rivets and seams, and contact me immediately if anything appears to be in poor condition — I’ll take care of it.
